Small thought here: boys do read fairy tales. They're called fantasy adventures, but they're essentially fairy tales. Roald Dahl comes to mind. Best, Alice

What tales you use might depend on what perceptions you're interested in studying, but the Jack tales might be good. I know a Boyscout troupe leader who read them to his troupe with great success.

Bruno Bettelheim has some good commentary. My brother liked Aesop's Fables when young. I'd also recommend the Ivan tales, the Golden Goose, and other "simpleton makes good" stories. King Arthur and...

There are tons of fairy tale with macho male protagonists. Usually some poor devil (cobbler, peasant, youngest of three/seven sons etc) who wins the hand of a princess through wits and courage.

I think the tale of Aladdin from One Thousand and One Nights is an enjoyable tale for males. Also the Narnia series, if it counts.
